Windows Vista Error Message

O.K. I am running Windows Vista, which I hate by the way, and I have a ton
of emails in my Deleted Items folder that I cannot permanently delete. The
message says:

Message could not be displayed
Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this
message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.

How can I get these deleted permanently? All the emails I have read and are
all o.k. I do NOT have low disk space. I have an HP Compaq Presario
notebook (piece of crap), if that helps!
