Windows Vista and AVG Firewall

Hi Everyone --

I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium installed.
I also purchased AVG Internet Security package and had no problem installing
all of the security features until I came to the AVG Firewall.

I keep getting a warning saying that the AVG Firewall has stopped and that
it wasn't able to initialize. Now, I turned off the Windows Firewall and
tried re-installing the AVG software and I still get the same result.

Any ideas on why I can't get the AVG Firewall to activate? Is there a
compatibility problem with Windows Vista?

You may want to contact the AVG tech support or repost to a Vista group.

You are not going to find anything better than the Vista FW and Vista in
itself due to the advanced features the FW and Vista are using.

"If you try to block outbound connections from a computer that’s already
compromised, how can you be sure that the computer is really doing what you
ask? The answer: you can’t. Outbound protection is security theater—it’s a
gimmick that only gives the impression of improving your security without
doing anything that actually does improve your security. This is why
outbound protection didn’t exist in the Windows XP firewall and why it
doesn’t exist in the Windows Vista™ firewall."

Why ask HERE? Vista and AVG have nothing to do with XP.

I couldn't find a Vista Newsgroup and thought I might find some answers. And
I did.

AVG won't reply to my e-mails. They must be furiously working to make AVG
compatible with Vista - is my guess.

Is your version of AVG a Commercial or Home User version? It says
Technical Support is only available for registered users of Commercial
versions. The arrangements are puzzling.

Does FAQ 543 help?

There is a Forum for AVG Free but I cannot locate one for non-free
users.

Hope this helps.
