If you don't have a legit install key for the exact version of Windows XP
that you have loaded you must purchase the version of Windows XP (with key)
that you wish to install.

My Dell XP Pro came with XP Pro installed on the notebook but wonder
where you find the key? Where is it located?

On the bottom of the notebook.

Look on the bottom of the laptop. You should see a sticker with
the 25 digit product key there. It's usually a good idea to
record this information in a secure location in case something
happens to the sticker.

Good luck

Read the Dell bumph?
usually located on a sticker on the case
assuming you mean winxp pro and not office xppro

FYI, it probably won't match. All the Dell installations I've
seen use a Volume License key. Run the key finder on a bunch of
Dell computers and the results are likely to be identical. If
you look on the installation CD, the key is stored within the
winnt.sif file in the root of the I386 folder.

Thanks..... just noticed the sticker on the bottom of the case. I never
bothered to look. I assume that key is tied to the installed OEM
software.
