All of a sudden I can't get windows xp updates. Any thoughts on how to solve
this problem easily? Thanks

Genuine Windows Validation [ Support ID: 0x8DDD1008 ] To get updates, you
must first validate your Windows software. Validation assures that you are
using an authentic and fully licensed copy of Windows.

This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation[0x80080208] You may be
a victim of software counterfeiting. The Windows product key installed on
this computer is not genuine. Details The product key is a unique identifier
assigned by Microsoft only to genuine Windows software. If this key is
missing or incorrect, it may indicate the presence of counterfeit software
and your system may be at risk. There are several reasons why a product key
may not be considered genuine. ...(truncated)

Since you apparently know that you do have a legitimate version, see this
information from MVP Carey Frisch:

1. Download and install the WGA Diagnostic Tool -
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=56062

2. After running the WGA Diagnostic Tool, click on the "Windows" tab and
then click on "Copy to Clipboard".

3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the "WGA
Validation Problems" forum and paste the results of the WGA Diagnostic Data
in a detailed post -
http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/default.aspx?SiteID=25

4. A WGA troubleshooting specialist will analyze the data and recommend an
appropriate solution.

Okay I'm frustrated. I know this is my copy I'm looking at the cd key. This
still says not validated. If I use an earlier version of xp do I lose all my
files? Thanks for any help.

Are you the original poster? Did you go through the recommended steps from
Carey Frisch that I posted? If the answer to the second question is "no",
then please do so.

Description of the Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications application
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=905474
It appears that you could be a victim of software piracy. The copy of Windows installed on
this computer is not considered to be genuine by Microsoft.
The notification will continue to display until your computer is running genuine Microsoft
Windows.
