I ran the validation tool on microsoft website and they said the product key
was okay. When i tried to update windows via internet it stated my product
was not genuine and would not allow updates. I also checked microsofts site
for what to look for on pirated products and my copy looks genuine. the only
change ive made since installation was to delete a file called GTGina.dll and
I did not register the product during installation

Also, there is a database file in support of Activation that can become
corrupted. It is under:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Windows Genuine
Advantage\data

filename is data.dat. Rename this file, goto Microsoft Validation website:

http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/default.mspx this will rebuild the
database.

and re-validate. Then re-run your Windows Genuine Advantage Tool to verify
activation.

Suggestion:

NEVER delete a file until you have verified everything on your system works.
Just rename it.
