I am running window xp home edition. Recently I had to
reload my computer because of some problems I had. Can
anyone tell me if I have to redownload my windows updates
that are located in the windows directory? I copied the
original ones that were there, on to a cd. Will windows
recognize those updates if I just put them back into the
windows directory, or do I have to redowload all of them
to reinstall them.

You will need to redownload them. Copying the files from the Windows
directory will not work. For the future, you can use the Windows Update
Catalog (on the left side of the Windows Update page - you may need to
customize your WU settings first in order to see it) to download
updates and burn to a cd.

If you copied the files in the $NTUninstall folders, those were files
needed to *uninstall* updates, not to install them. Unless you took
steps to secure the original downloaded .exe files of the updates you
will have to get them afresh. And be sure to get the Firewall active
before you go on the Internet even for a moment.
