Windows updates

I choose to be notified for Windows updates but to manually download and
install them. About twice per month I get a notification that a Windows
update is available and do I want to download it. I choose to download and
install them later. However the icon remains near the clock. I find this an
annoyance.

How would I made the icon disappear when I choose to update myself?

I have WinXP Pro with SP2.

Thank you,

Barry,

The icon is part of Windows Security. It is just a reminder so you
don't need to click on them. If you perform manual Windows Updates
thru IE7, you'll see the reminder icon disappears after everything is
up-to-date...

I realize it's part of security and it is a reminder. The problem I have
with it is my memory (the mind kind) is quite good -- and I do not need a
reminder. How would I get rid of the reminder?

Thanks,

Barry,

You can't get rid of it, but you can hide it.

- right-click the taskbar and click on properties.
- under the taskbar tab and beside "hide inactive icons", click on
customize.
- look for the reminder icon and change the behavior to "always hide".
- click OK to close custmize window.
- click apply to save changes and click ok to close window.

You should be set...
