There is an icon near the clock that indicates that updates are ready for my
computer. How do I get rid of the icon after I've read what the updates do
and are for?

I have WinXP Pro & SP2.

Thank you,

Use http://Update.Microsoft.Com , Choose Custom Scan - any items
that are offered, but you don't want uncheck the select box then click
the Details and click the option that says "Do not Show me this update...."
However this may cause Security Center to nag you about the fact that
you've "Hidden" Critical updates.

Well, normally a person installs them.

Install the updates. Better yet, set your system to automatically download
and install.
