Windows updates....problem

I went to MSN to install updates to avoid worm, etc. I
loaded the 1st servise pack, either 4 or 6. The second
service pack, either 4 or 6 , stopped loading, I have DSL,
service was ok, but the download stopped at some point. I
left on-line 6 more hours connected, no change. I had to
re-boot to un-freeze my computer, now Windows won't load,
message says windows 2000 root missing.....lowest estimate
I can find to correct my machine is $400.00.

Any way I can unf%#k my computer for free? I can't afford
to pay $400.00 to fix a computer that I went to MSN.com to
update.....how pissed I am now.......Ron Austin

if you made the emergency repair disks life is very simple for you at this point. Otherwise, as far as I know your only choice is to do a repair of the OS from the bootup using the install cd. Which means that every else will need to be re-installed as well and reconfigured.
