Windows updates not installed

I am facing a strange problem.I can't install windows update.It
download the updates but after when it comes to installation,a message
saying 'some updates could not be installed' displayed and all updates
fails.What could be the problem and solution?

I had this same problem after applying SP3 to one or my machines. I would
like to thank both Joan and PA Bear. Registering wups2.dll file as outlined
below fixed the problem.
