When I go to the windows updtate pate and click on
install critical updates, the download monitor just site
there for hours reading "preparing to download". It
sounds like I might have a bug but all my virus softeware
is updated and nothing shows up in virus scan. I tried
reinstalling IE but to no avail. Any suggetstions?

Windows Update Fails:
Disable your anti-virus when obtaining the updates.
Make sure that your firewall is allowing the connection to Windows Update .
This would be on ports 80 and 443.

Are you using IE 6 when you run the Windows Update? I have
the same issue with Windows Update and got this error code
(0x800c0005). Just curious if you got the same error code
as mine. At the same time, my Norton Anti-Virus suddenly
stops working too but it does download the updated
Definition list. I am not sure if it has something to do
with Windows Update and Norton. I did find this article at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;241223 regarding this conflict.
