For some reason, Windows update has vanished from my Win
XP. It comes up as "undefined". Any suggestions about
how to reinstall this feature? I can still update from
the web.

Thanks

Hi,

Click start/run, type in "wupdmgr.exe" and click "ok". Does this start the
WindowsUpdate site?

If so, then simply create a new shortcut to "%windir%\system32\wupdmgr.exe"
(without hte quotes) under

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu

If not, then you may need to expand a new copy of that file. Start/run
msconfig, click on "expand file" (general tab)

File to expand: wupdmgr.exe
From: X:\I386
To: %windir%\system32

Where X is whatever letter is assigned your CD drive (you need your WinXP CD
for this), change it accordingly. If your system was preinstalled, you may
find this instead on the hard drive under C:\Windows\I386. If so, change the
"from" line accordingly. Reboot when finished.
