Is their a way we can centrally download updates to a server instead of
installing on the fly. Therefore being able to distribute the updates to
several worksations locally!!!

I use the freebie version of this patch management tool from Shavlik:

http://www.shavlik.com

It can be used by an administrator to patch multiple machines.

visiting http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp?corporate=true
will allow you to download all the updates, and then install them on as
many computers as you need to

Step 1. Goto http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp
Step 2. Click on "Personalize Windows Update".
Step 3. Check "Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog under "See
Also". Click "Save Settings".
Step 4. Under "See Also", you can now get the "Windows Update Catalog" link.
Step 5. Choose the OS and add hotfixes to your "Download Basket".

here goes

If you go to normal windows update site, then under personalise
settings, tick the box marked show windows update catalog un der "see also"

then you can use that to get to the same page devil_satan2003
talks about.
