Windows update; wrong Update offered

Hi. I am trying to get updates through window updates, where it scans you for
what you might need. I offered a software update for an Agere Win Modem, but
I have a Lucent Win Modem. Are they the same thing? Or do I need to go
somewhere to find an update for the Lucent

Rule of thumb.
Don't get hardware driver updates from Microsoft.
Get them from the manufacturer's website.

Hi,

Don't install driver updates from Windows Update unless you are having a
problem with yours.

Yes,they are the same.
Why don't you download the latest driver from the manufacturer's web site?

In any case I would not get driver updates from Windows update. If the
modem is working leave it alone; if in trouble try the makers site,

Agere and Lucent are different suppliers of chipsets for such things;
see
www.agere.com and www.lucent.com respectively
though it is possible that Lucent may have put out a board under their
name that in fact uses Agere chips - or you may have Agere chips on the
motherboard and have added a Lucent card
