windows update tells me I am not running windows

When clicking on Windows update, I get a message that I am not running
the windows operating system when in fact I am running XP Pro.

I had just made some changes to my Opera browser program and then un
installed it. Now this. Anything I can do?

Try using the Update Website in INTERNET EXPLORER... Windows Update wont
let me update using anything other than IE.

No difference. I bet Opera screwed with my registry somewhere. But MS
should have a way to get the info it wants. Wouldn't you think?

I would imagine... Windows XP also has features to download the updates
and then ask you to install them. You could try that to get the updates...
