windows update problem

Hi I try to do a windows update and it stops loading or
checking prior to the express or custom options. i also
can't update from the microsoft downloads site. I also
can't get the symantec online security check to run, says
i need scripting and active x enabled and they are. any
sugg's? i have service pack 1.

sounds like a virus blocking you, if it is try to use system restore to
restore the pc back to before you think you may have been infected then run
