Windows Update Problem

I have a customer who has a Dell Precision 380, Windows XP Professional,
factory installed. He is logged into a domain and behind the scenes our
network administrators are pushing out the Windows Updates from our server.
This happens at least one a month or when there is a need to have a critical
update installed immediately.

This is the problem....Everytime this update is pushed out to this person's
pc and he reboots, he gets the error NTLDR is missing, press any key and
restart. It's happened three times. Each time I've had to run the recovery
console and copy the files, NTLDR AND NTDECT.COM back to the hard drive, but
this last time, I decided to see if the files were definitely there before I
copied them, so I set the hard drive up as a slave and sure enough, they were
gone!

Have you heard of the NTLDR and NTDECT.COM being completely removed after a
windows update install and what causes it?

Please Help!!!!

That is a very weird situation. Could be a virus or something, but it would
have to be pretty sophisticated to detect doing it precisely when updates
are applied.

A band-aid fix however could be to run a LOGOFF or SHUTDOWN script that
checks to see that the files are there before shutting down. If they are
gone, you can have the script copy them back over from another location.

Hi Roxanne,
Sorry this is not an answer to your problem but a question regarding your
question.
I'm trying to implement in our company for Windows update to be done
automatically through our server or like you explained in your question if
we want to push a new update to a user at any time.
How or What program are they using to do this automatic updates?

Thanks, will really appreciate
