Windows Update problem

My Win XP Sp1 computer crashed as windows update was
installing the latest update software for the site.
Now when i go to Windows Update it says i need the latest
version. The button says "UPdate Now". I click and
nothing. I tried reinstalling IE 6 SP1 from the net,
tried reinstalling from Add Remove Programs, searched for
the Windows update software to download manually...
nothing.
Any help greatly appreciated.
