Windows Update Problem - Update Download Failure

Good day,

Everytime I try to patch my computer up from Windows Update it fails. I have
Windows XP Pro SP2. What happens is that Windows Update scans my machine and
produces a list of patches with no problems.
When I try to download this patches the download Fails for all of them. I
have a temporary work around that works perfectly for ONE session then it
breaks again.

The workaround is:
1- Stop the Auto Updates service.
2- Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder in the Windows directory to
SoftwareDistribution.old
3- Start Auto Updates service. (This creates a new SoftwareDistribution
folder)
4- Visit Windows Update.

Now as I said earlier, this works for one session, when new patches come out
I need to repeat these steps over again. These steps are a real inconvenience
to me and my customers, who are all facing this problem.

Any help would be really excellent.

Empty the TEMPORARY INTER FILES folder, delete all the Cookies and
renew the WU client software as described here:
"WINUP: Error Message: "Software Update Incomplete, This Windows
Update Software Did Not Update Successfully"

I tried emptying the Temp Internet Files and Cookies. I also renewed the WU
client. The above actions helped with one session of Updating but then it
breaks when new patches come out. This problem occurs on all computers in my
office laptops and desktops. Is there something in the proxy or firewall
doing this? I am a support person so I am actually looking for a deep
technical answer.
