Windows Update Preventing SP1 Update

K

Keith Willcocks

I received the Microsoft Download email and followed the link to read about
SP1 for Vista. It recommends installing via the Windows Update site.

Every time (and by whatever means) I try to access the Windows Update site
the Vista Windows Update tool dives in and tells me that there are no
updates available.

I am sure I would know if a 65MB file had downloaded and installed but I
could be wrong.

Two questions:

1) How can I tell if my system has upgraded itself to SP1 without my
involvement?

2) As the first answer is almost certain to be that it cannot, how can I
get the onboard Windows Update to let me through to the web site?

Thanks for that. Mine just says Windows Vista Home Premium so I guess I am
right that it has not updated. So my second question remains "how can I
get the onboard Windows Update to let me through to the web site?" I have
tried disabling Automatic Updates but the Control Panel module still butts
in every time I try to reach the Windows Update web site. I have also
tried Microsoft Support but they don't want to know and referred me back to
forums.

You're welcome, and good luck!

Thanks for that. I think the one about incompatible drivers probably
applies in this case so, as my Gateway laptop is only 6 months old, I will
dump it on Gateway support to sort out.
