windows update not working

Hi,
I am using Internet explorer 6.0. When I run "windows
update", and click "Scan for Updates", the screen comes
up where it show percentage of completion. It stays at
"%0" and doesn't go any farther. I update the Sun java
virtual machine and also tried updating the microsoft
virtual machine without luck.

Since the system was brand new with just a couple of
programs on it, I did a restore point to the first time
the system first loaded windows with out success. Have
any of you guys seen this before?
