windows update help

"Download stops or freezes. The Windows Update - Web Page
Dialog window appears but download never starts" This is
exactly what happens to me, but the troubleshooter's
answer to this problem was totally not helpful. What
should I do now?

Create a new user and see if you can go in from there. Or see if you can get
in from Safe Mode with Networking? I guess I had a corrupted user account
and once I created new one all was fine.

Turn off all your third-party tools, spam blockers, anti-virus, firewalls, etc.
