Windows Update fails

I have Windows 2000, and have downloaded the Windows Update
items, but it doesn't go the next step to Install. I
checked the log, and it says all downloads "failed".
How do I get to Install from the Downloaded Updates. I
have attempted this twice. The first time took several
hours, but 2nd time it recognized the downloads, but still
doesn't Install. Any help or suggestions would be
appreciated, as I would really like to Install Updates

Looks like we're all having the same problem getting the %
$(%&@# Updates installed......Is this just a user site or
does someone from Microsoft check it once in awhile and
tell us how to get the problems fixed???!!!!

Yet another hapless sojourner!! There was a message
somewhere that indicated that the install would be
effected upon re-booting, but that did not happen
either.

Does anyone know if these messages are monitored by
Microsoft, so that there might be an official reply at
some point?

There are many of us with update problems,,,I was looking
at the Symantec website to learn more about my antivirus
system -- one function of the worm "W32.blaster" is to
disrupt the windows update capability so that we can't
download patches. If this is true, maybe some of us have
been hit by the work already. Norton supposedly has
solutions...

don't know for sure, but thought I'd pass it along

I had the blaster worm twice now and even destroyed it
before the antivirus dats came out, but I just recently
can't get updates like every one else. Could this be a new
blaster virus more stealthy then the first easy to find
win32 blaster?
