Windows Update Fails

Chris Maxwell

Hi there,

I'm having a strange problem with Windows Update. All
updates that I attempt to install are failing with the
following error:

---

No Updates Were Installed

The following items failed to install. To try installing
them again, click Review and install updates, and then
click Install Now again.

August 2003, Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer 6
Service Pack 1 (822925)
813951: Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1
330994: April 2003, Security Update for Outlook Express 6
SP1
821557: Security Update (Windows XP)
811493: Security Update (Windows XP)
Security Update for Windows XP (815021)
MS03-026: Security Update for Windows XP (823980)
Security Update for Microsoft Data Access Components
(823718)
823559: Security Update for Microsoft Windows
817606: Security Update (Windows XP)
817787: Security Update Windows Media Player for XP
NVIDIA display software update released on May 02 2003.

---

It launches the basic installation program to download the
setup files where i click "Accept" then comes back with
the error above for any files I try to install.

I have cleared out the cache, temporary internet files,
the windows update files, browser history and have tried
Stepping Mode for Windows Update per the knowledge base
article and checked that my security settings are set
correctly.

Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong? It works fine
on another PC which is identical in hardware and is also
running Windows XP Professional.

Thank you for any help that you can provide.

Best Regards,

- Chris

Here's some information for your to consider:

If Updates fail to install:-
If you receive a 643 error message or a message indicating that Windows
Update was unable to complete the operation. This may occur if the catalog
database (Edb.log) is damaged.
Try this:-
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
del /q "%SystemRoot%\System32\Catroot2\Edb.log
This command will force the catalog database to rebuild itself.

This issue may occur if you use the AOL Web browser interface to access and
download Windows Updates. The AOL Web browser does not communicate properly
