I updated 3 different Windows XP updates; did I update
from the SoBig virus (trojan) 1)817606 Security Update
(Windows XP); 2) 823559 Security Update for Microsoft
Windows; Q815021 XP Security Update??

Go here and make sure you have every critical update.
This will ensure as much protection as possible offered by microsoft.

I am uncertain wether or not microsoft coveres viruses ( I did not look up
the security update notes );
However, it is a good practice to have a good anti-virus program and to keep
it up to date on the virus definitions.

If you do this you're ensured very good coverage from viruses / trojans
