It also keeps appearing on the Windows Update page as a
Critical Update on my machine -- even though it is listed
as "successfully installed" both by automatic update and
website.

The "More information" indicates Microsoft will not
charge for support issues on this item, yet the support
website won't allow me to ask the question without paying
for support. Hopefully, someone from MS will see these
posts!
