Since few weeks, I don't get the baloon that says "new updates ready
to install, press here for...". Now I get only the offert to install
them when i switch off the pc but I can't see which updates will be
installed. Have you idea hou to launch/invoke manually that baloon?

Thank you in advance

Absent any serious numerical Errors in your windowsupdate.log (cf.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902093), you may be seeing a delay caused by
excessive demand on the servers ("Update is not allowed to download due to
regulation"). It can take up to 7 days or more (sometimes much more) for
all Automatic Update users to get new updates when so many have been
released (e.g., Office 2007 SP2; IE8). See...

Updates are not downloaded or the "Automatic Updates" icon does not display
the status of downloads when you enable the Automatic Updates service:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/910340

You can install the updates via Windows/Microsoft Update website (WinXP) or
by running Windows Update manually (Vista) instead: Understand that by doing
so, you're pushing all other Automatic Updates users further back in the
queue (which may explain, at least in part, why Automatic Updates hasn't
brought them in for you yet).

Which "Automatic" setting?  The "default" one usually will
automatically install the available updates with out advising you.

I am using ----> Automatic (recommended) Automatically download
recommended updates for my computer and install them

but this is not the point, i need to know how to launch the baloon tip
that usually show up when automatic updates are rady to be installed.
just this. is someone able to answer to this question?

Right click on My Computer icon
Select Properties
Select Automatic Updates

and change the settings as required.

Your system is more likely set to automatically do the updates without
any notifications.

If all updates detected by AU have not downloaded, you won't see the AU
icon. If some updates have downloaded, an "Install updates and turn off
computer" button will have replaced the "Turn off computer" button when you
go to shutdown.

PS: If you update manually via Windows Update, chances are the AU icon will
appear after you've approved the installation of the updates you've
selected. Ignore the AU icon and continue installing the updates manually.
