This morning, auto update alerted me there were new
updates ready to be installed. Instead of opting
for "express" I opted for the "advanced" install feature.
What I discovered was that update was asking to uninstall
various components of the Windows XP Pro beta SP2 I
installed a couple of weeks ago. While trying to decide
whether to go ahead with this update, Norton Antivirus
popped open and alerted me that a malious script was
asking permission to uninstall some beta software. I
thought maybe, MS issued the update in preparation of
releasing SP2 final--but why would Norton AV alert me?
What's the deal here, is this a real update or another
trojan or virus running around the internet? I tried to
find someway to contact Microsoft about this, but all of
the links I have found ask to positive feedback of
Microsoft products rather than trouble reporting. Is this
an offical update, this uninstall, and why is it not on
the Windows Update site if this is the case?
