I have 40 items listed in the "processes" folder in the
Task Mgr window. I don't know what all of them do but I'm
almost certain that i don't need them all and wondering
if they may be slowing down starting and other functions??

Most of these are loaded as Services at startup and a good many of
them are quite essential for the proper operation of your computer.

See http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm for some
information and advice about these items.

Good luck
