High CPU Usage in IE

Running IE v6. I get occasional slow-downs. When this happens, task
Mgr processes tab shows high CPU usage for IE, like 90%+. Closing all
IE windows seems to stop it (until the next time).

You'd think 'Spyware' but I've run several checkers (spybot, etc) and
nothing is reported. What else could do this?

Hi,

Try the steps outlined here:

Problems with Plug-ins:
http://rickrogers.org/fixes.htm#plugin

Thanks for the link, Rick. Unfortunately IE 6.0.2800.1106 under XP
SP1 shows no button for managing plugins (is it located somewhere
else?)

The Windows\Downloaded Program Files\ folder has several Microsoft
entries, and several for online virus scanners that I've run from time
to time. Nothing noticeably alien. I suppose I could delete all of
those, but I was hoping to narrow down the culprit more effectively.

Hi,

No, the option wasn't added until SP2 (another good reason to have <g>). The
old way still applies, move half the plugins out of the download folder, see
if the problem still occurs. If not, then it's probably one of the ones
still in there. If so, it's one of the ones you moved. Repeat ad nauseum....
