Windows Task Manager

When I hit Ctrl, Alt and Delete I get the task manager as usual. If I go to
Processes, I find there are about 49-50 processes in there and I know this is
far to many and is probably slowing my machine down? Is there a way or a
program that can rectify this and only allow processes to be in there that
should be in there? The list seems to be getting bigger by the day! Many
thanks - MickY G

XP uses far more processes than previous Operating Systems, try doing a bit
of Googling to find out what those all are, but don't just try to stop them
or delete them, that way lays trouble!

Hi,

Actually, that's not quite correct. WinXP simply *shows* the user more of
the background processes - especially for those coming off of a Win9x system
who are used to seeing only a hnadful of running items in the task manager.
What is "normal" can be anywhere from 20 to 60 different processes depending
on the system, its configuration, and the user's preferences.
