windows switches to Outlook upon new activity

In Office 2007 Pro, windows switches to Outlook upon new activity in email.
Even if I am actively using another program.

Any ideas?
I don't recall changing anything that could precipitate this.
It was working last week fine after the upgrade.

It happened twice while doing this..
