Windows startup problem

When I start windows it loads to the background but the start menu or
shortcuts do not load. The only thing that will load is if I hit ctrl-alt-del
then I can access some things. Any Ideas on how to get it to work. Also I was
going to reinstall windows but I lost my product key is teir any way to get
this either from microsoft or the computer.

The magical Jellybean key finder
(http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml) is one application
that can be used to recover your product key, if you cannot run it in
normal mode try from safe mode. If you can't get into either then
Ultimate Boot CD for Windows (http://www.ubcd4win.com/ ) has a key
finder application included.
