Windows Slow to Open

Hi all,

I am finding some windows are slow to open for me now. Open my computer
seems to take around 10 seconds till it reads and displays all the proper
icons, and Windows Explorer is very slow to open. It seems to sit there for
about the same 10 seconds till it finally starts loading a page. I
downloaded Firefox and it comes up within 2 seconds.

I've cleaned all temporary folders and made sure I don't have a bunch of
stuff loading with windows. Anyone have any ideas on what may be causing
this slowdown? Thanks in advance for any help.

My specs are:

XP Pro SP2
P4 3.0ghz
2 gigs memory
GeForce 7800GS video card
Audigy 2 ZS sound card

If there are a lot of files in the folder, it may take longer to open. If
you have too many proccesses running, same thing. Same if you have
auto-protect enabled with some virus scanners.
It will also take a long time to open if it is difficult to access that part
of the hard drive. Try CHKDSK and defragging the drive. I've had personal
experince of a folder opening crashing the computer because the disk was so
unreadable.

Make sure you have all of the Windows Updates installed from
www.windowsupdate.com.
