Windows shuts down

Everytime I try to open my control pannel, I get a message that there is an
error and windows has to shut down.

Can Anyone Help?

I would go to \windows\system32 folder, and change the extension of all
*.cpl files as, say, *.cp$ (i.e. to non-existent extension) and see if
an empty control panel opens after that. Then close Control Panel,
restore the original extension one by one (or group by group) and open
Control Panel again. If all is Ok -- close it again, etc.

So the file, that causes this effect, will be found. What is its name?
(I suspect it is CPL-file from one of the older versions of NVIDIA
video driver: right click it -- Properties -- Version tab).

Don't forget to restore CPL-extension of the other renamed files.
