Windows XP Home Edition is what I have on my computer ...
I recently installed the sp2 from microsoft.com and now
my computer will not boot up properly ... it says "boot
disc error" ... I downloaded the setup discs and used
them to get back to my Windows setup screen but then it
asks for a Windows XP Home Edition cd ... the computer
came with this already on it and I did not recieve a
disc ... using the repair system on setup I can get into
a command prompt screen but I do not know the file to
boot windows ... I believe it is in the I386 folder or
something like that but I am not sure ... can anyone help?

You need to get into the Recovery Console and type in fixmbr to build
yourself a new Master Boot Record. At least that's what I would try at this
point. This can be done from the 6 disk floppy set or if you have the
recovery partition you should be able to go into the recovery console from
there. You can also try tapping the F8 key when it's booting and see if you
can get into safe mode with networking and then go>start\run and type in
msconfig and then click the boot.ini tab and then the "check all boot paths"
button. The path to your i386 should be something like this
c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 Post back if you need more.
