Windows Setup Disc

Hi,

I have two computers, one came with the original Windows Set-up disc, the
other with a factory boot-up type disc. The factory boot-up disc includes
some, useful and non-useful software of which I could avoid with a basic Win
XP se-up disc, however both computers are Designed for XP and therefore have
their own Product Keys.

So. Can I use the set-up CD that came with one of the comps for the other
comp which came with a factory boot-up disc? AND I would obviously use the
product key that came with each comp (so they would be different, correct,
product keys)

cheers,

-Nutty-

Maybe - they both sound like OEMs.
If the OEM version that come with none of the extras is generic enough -
besides drivers - you should have no problem.

Ah! The comp with the setup cd is an OEM, however, the one with the factory
boot-up cd is not an OEM. So therefore my question is, can the setup cd that
came with the OEM be installed on the non-OEM, but using the non-OEM product
key?

If it came "factory setup" - it's an OEM license.
Original Equipment Manufacturer.

This particular OEM (the one with the "factory boot-up cd") chose to give
you a method of restoring the system to default, as they assembled/installed
it - but not a way of easily customizing it yourself.

So - again - both sound like OEM licenses. If this is so - then there is a
possibility that using a generic OEM CD (yes - the CDs come in types.. OEM,
Retail, Upgrade, MSDN, Volume, etc.) with proper OEM keys will work fine.

The general rule is that most OEM keys will work with generic OEM media
(CDs), retail license keys will work with retail license media (CDs) and so
on. In this case - all of your CD keys are OEM. Therefore - you will
likely be able to use said keys with any generic OEM media. However - there
is always a CHANCE that your particular OEM CD may not be truly "generic".

Ah! sorry for the miss-understanding lol.

By factory boot-up disc, I meant a CD from my manufacturer (acer) with like
XP and some of their pre-installed programs, Instead of one of those
holographic MS XP discs. Therefore on the sticker thing it doesn't say
OEM... it says Acer Manufacturer...
