Windows Server 2003

hi to all,

i am planning to buy a new file server. we have an existing windows
2003 server running on an hp proliant server. it has 18 licenses to it.

our company at the moment only has 15 client computers. the other 3 are
not functioning anymore....

my question is : if i buy another new server together with the windows
2003 server software, do i need to buy another 15 new licenses?

i plan to connect the 2 server into 1 domain. the old server will still
be the domain controler/file server while the new server will act only
as a file server.

or is it ok to use winxp pro on the new server machine. i read
somewhere that xp pro is also good in a server function.

thanks guys

If your CAL's (Client Access License) are per server then you will need
to buy additional licenses. If the licenses are per user then you are
good to go.

I wouldn't suggest using XP for a server. While this might work for
your situation now it will always end up costing you more in the end.

Good Luck
