This button has appeared on my task bar since installing SP2. I
consider myself clever enough to keep my computer up to date
without having Auto Update turner on.
Can someone please explain how to remove this button and its
associated balloon explanation.
TIA

Open Control Panel and double click the Security Center icon.

On the left side, select "Change the way Security Center alerts me". In the
Alert Settings dialog box, remove the check mark from the Automatic Updates
item.
