windows search does not show up and media player does not apply skins

shortie

I am using Win XP Home (SP2 and all latest updates applied). Since a
few weeks when i use search only the companion shows up and the other
forms (to specify the file etc) do not show up at all, it is just a
blank space above the companion.
Also Except for the corporate skin none of the other skins in media
player 10 work.

That did not help. I tried uninstalling SP2 ,but that also did not help
so I re-installed SP2.

That did not help.It did install succesfully though. I tried
uninstalling SP2 ,but that also did not help
so used system restore to get SP2 back.
I believe the problem is in java script or something like that.
When i use help i get the error :
"An error has occured in the script on this page"
and it asks me if i want to continue to run scripts.

See if re-applying SP2 helps. If not, try reinstalling Windows Script 5.6

Download details: Windows Script 5.6 for Windows XP and Windows 2000:

Reinstalling Windows XP Search companion
==============================

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 %Windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll

Then,

1. Login as administrator
2. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%\inf, and then click OK.
3. Locate the Srchasst.inf file.
4. Right-click the Srchasst.inf file, and then click Install.

This reinstalls the files that Search Companion uses. When you're prompted
for the system files, insert your Windows XP CD, or point to
Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder (if you've applied SP1 or SP2
separately) which-ever has the updated system files.
