Is there a way to get XP home to stop moving windows all over the screen?
Just about every time I bring up a window it's in a different location on the
screen.

No. Windows moves the windows to 'tile' them by design and as expected
behavior. Users sometimes 'lose' a window if they cover each other. Many apps
do 'remember' where they were when the last instance was last closed, but
additional instances will always tile. Windows has no setting to alter this
behaviour.

Try right clicking the desktop and unselect the autogrid setting, that may
give you what you are after.

Sorry read your post again & realise you refer to windows and not icons, my
mistake.
