Windows says my CD key isn't valid but it is!!!!

I purchased a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate. I have the full retail box
including all instructions and all that stuff. It was without a doubt new and
unopened when I installed it on my new computer.

It was not an upgrade. It was the FULL version. I installed the 64bit
version. Aside from huge compatibility issues and regular blue screens (but
that's expected from a new Windows OS haha) I've been pretty happy with it.

Well, that was until the past few days. Windows tried to activate the
software at first but simply said it encountered an unexpected error and
could not activate. Well, today I tried to activate it (or it tried to
activate itself, rather) and it says my CD key is already in use! What is the
deal with this?

This is totally wrong and I'm not going to chuck out another hundred or so
dollars just because the OS is glitching up. I'm willing to send back my full
retail copy of Vista Ultimate and get another identical copy, but this is
absurd!

What should I do about this? It kind of makes me angry seeing things like
this going on. If only Microsoft had actually tested and debugged the OS
before releasing it, I doubt we'd have as many problems. No wonder more
people are switching to Linux and Mac by the day....

By the way same thing occurred to me after I clicked on an unknown file(or
link).
I went back to another copy of my HD (saved with Norton Ghost 12).

I don't have a backup program other than the one in System Tools on Windows.
Are you suggesting I reinstall? I was thinking of reinstalling to 32bit
anyways.

No, he's suggesting you activate by phone, but if your going to switch to 32
bit don't bother.

It is probably your previous attempt to install using your DVD key that they
have a record off.
You should have no problem explaining this using phone activation.

Iwent through the same ordeal twice. Had to call support and play phone tag
and had the feeling of being interrogated more than helped. The sad part is
it was about a month after upgrading from Vista Home Premium to Vista
Ultimate just out of the blue the Microsoft "Police" say that my copy of
Vista is not legal or some sort of crap to that effect.

It just makes you mad to think that some Bill-ionaire thinks you are ripping
him off and all you want to do is use his precious OS that you have paid for.
Such is gratitude in the Windows World.

I'll admit that I have had a rather pleasant time using XP since NOV 2001
but Vista sure leaves me wanting. Sorry to rant but if I was to do it over I
wouldn't install Vista as there is no advantage to upgrading only problems.
