Windows restarts at shutdown after installing wireless mouse...

I just installed a microsoft wireless mouse tonight on my desktop (windows
XP) and the mouse works great but the computer would not shut down. It will
go through the motions when I go to turn it off but within 5 seconds it
restarts itself. I uninstalled the software that came with the mouse and
unplugged the transmitter, restarted the computer and then plugged in my old
wired mouse exactly as it was before but its still rebooting itself when I
shutdown. The "automatic restart at system failure" option was already
disabled prior to this problem so that hasn't made a difference. I've visited
most of the links already posted here and i've gone through the various
methods with no results. I even called microsoft but so far they've been no
help. Does anyone have any other ideas, or has anyone had a problem with this
mouse before?

PCs that restart themselves 99.9% of the time is a hardware conflict, not
software.
You can, unplug the power to the pc,remove the battery for 5 minutes or so,re-
install it,plug in power, restart pc.On restart, you'll need to enter the
BIOS & re-
set date/time,load optimal defaults, then set for any add-ins you have
installed,
save & exit BIOS...Before you restart pc,youre option would be to have mouse
hardware plugged in & try again....

How did you connect the Wireless receiver - USB or PS2 ? Also
was the support software MS Intellipoint or Logitech SetPoint ?
( If SetPoint what version was used 3.1, 3.3 ).

If you connected via USB, is your BIOS setup configured to use
either "Legacy USB" ?

Some computers have issues with starting Human Interface Devices
(HID) using a wireless receiver on a USB port. I would review the
System Event Log and check for errors during the time frame the
Wireless mouse was used.
Click Start, Run (Type) EventVwr.Msc [Enter]
