Windows Resolution Remote Desktop

Does anybody know how I might change the local resolution of a Windows
Server 2003 box through a remote desktop session (not change the resolution
of the remote desktop session itself but the actual desktop resolution of
the machine that I'm connecting to).

The monitor that was connected to it supported resolutions of up to 1280 x
1024 (which is what the resolution is set to) and the only monitor I now
have available to plug into it is 1024 x 768 capable.

I really don't want to have to reboot the machine as it's running some very
important services.

Thanks

you can not make this change with remote desktop.

your best bet is to restart the machine which can be done from remote
desktop and go into safe mode. hook up your new monitor of course
before you restart it.

Then change the settings in safe mode.
I know you dont like that Idea. So....

If you want to learn Micro softs scripting i am sure it could be done
with a script but I dont have the vaguest notion how to do it.

I have managed to rename computers and send reboot commands with
scripts so I think a resolution could be changed.

I have solved my own problem. I remoted in and then installed VNC
(www.realvnc.com).
For those of you that don't know what VNC is, it's a similar tool to remote
desktop, but instead of connecting to a new session when you log onto the
system, you actually get a "snapshot" of the desktop on the remote machine.
From there I was able to change the resolution.

One normally memorises (or writes down) the keyboard steps on another machine and repeat the same keystrokes on the machine without a pitcher (like a picture).
