display distortion

I have a ViewSonic E90fmb CRT Monitor with a PowerColor ATI X300 SE PCIE
256MB video card and Windows XP SP3 with 4GB memory. When I set my screen
resolution to 1280 x 1024@85Hz from 1024 x 768@100Hz, the display is no
longer centered. Example; my background picture would shift to the right
and no longer be centered on the display. How can I fix this?

Try adjusting the Refresh rate to a different value. Usually lower.
rt click Desktop>chose Properties>Settings>Advanced>Monitor
