Windows Registry Corruption pop-ups

I keep getting a pop up message saying my registry is corrupted or there are
critical errors and that I should go to fixmyregistry.com or fixreg32.com or
any number of sites to correct this problem. Is this legitimate or a scam to
get me to by their protection. If a scam, how do I stop the pop ups?
 
download adaware and spybot search & destoy and see what those find and
delete.

Lisa,

Pop-ups like this generally lead to malicious or at best, useless websites.
There are at least three varieties of pop-ups, and your reaction should vary
accordingly.

As a general rule of thumb, any popup that is an ad about removing popups is
a scam.
