If someone could help that would be great

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This
should help by allowing time to write down the STOP code properly.
Right click on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select
Properties, Advanced, StartUp and Recovery, System Failure
and uncheck box before Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Start here:

Then here

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What drivers
are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

Hope this helps.

hi thanks for your reply
i disabled automatic restart and am currently checking out the websites
you listed for more help

Also did not find any yellow question marks in the device manager, i
take it that means that all drivers and system hardware is opperating
fine.

the log from sigverif.exe did not show any unsigned drivers

im going to wait for the reboot to happen again so i can get teh stop
error

just tried rebooting my system a few time, couldnt get the stop message
to appear. looks like i will have to wait until it next happens.
Usually only happens when i first turn on the computer in the morning.

thanks for your help

Nathan

Device Manager does not cover all device drivers.

Are there any reports in the System logs for past boots?

Hope this helps.

there are recorded system logs for boots which caused errors as above

im trying to search for the stop error:
stop: 0x0000001a
(0x00041284, 0xced72001, 0x0000652, 0xc0c0000)

Nathan

Your problem is probably related directly to the RAM memory
installed in your computer. If you search Google combining
0x0000001a and 0x00041284 you get a number of responses
going back to Windows 2000. I also tracked down a link
explaining the second parameter. There is also a KB Article,
which has been withdrawn, which mentions the error.

What is the make and model of your computer? Was another
operating system installed before Windows XP? What is the
history of the RAM memory installed on the machine?

What is the motherboard, chipset and memory installed?

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information about your
computer:
Everest Home Edition (freeware)

hi
Like i said before, i ran the microsoft memory test and another ram
test a friend sent me and it returned with no errors.

My system is branded wisetek/a open more than likely a clone. I
transfered an old hardrive to the new machine with windows 98, the
formatted it and installed a fresh copy of windows xp. (Full install)

later i upgraded the ram (generic 512mb) and installed a new segate
hard drive. although i have never had windows 2000 installed on my
system. Ive tried switching the ram from slot to slot as i have 256mb
in one slot and 512mb in another (not that it would do much) My system
hasnt rebooted, although am having start up issues (some programs are
missing components on boot)

the interesting thing though is that my system would only reboot itself
once per day, and that was always durring the first time when i turned
it on. never after that. no matter how many time i shut down/restarted

currently downloading Everest Home Edition

do you think formatting my computer will do anything?

Nathan

My knowledge on memory is limited but, nevertheless I think you
are missing several points.

Testing RAM memory can demonstrate that memory is faulty. It does
not, however, prove that it is not faulty. Sometimes users test for 24
hours before a fault is discovered. However, that is not the issue
for you as my suggestion is not based on the premise that some of
your memory is faulty but that it may not be compatible.

When memory is added to an existing system it has to be compatible
with existing hardware, namely the motherboard and with the other
installed memory.

To check suitability of memory one needs to look at the Motherboard
Manual and the Motherboard Manufacturer's web site for information
on what type, how much and how to install memory. What does
Everest say about the make and model of the motherboard?

The memory in DIMM1 would not appear to be the same as that in
DIMM2. The significance of the difference is not something I can
comment on but it is there in the Everest Report for you to see.
I also understand that even memory that is technically the same
but provided by different manufacturers can cause problems.

You know the original memory was OK because the computer
worked. It is quite simple to remove the new memory and, if
neccessary return the original memory to it's original slot. You
can then see if the computer works without the error. That is
the simplest way to check whether the new memory is suitable
for your computer.

hi,
thanks alot for your help and i hope to investigate this issue furthur.
more than likely there is something wrong with the compadibility of the
ram and my motherboard despite the fact that i asked the computer sales
person if it would be compadible, after showing him a diagram of my
motherboard, and he knew some details of the board inparticular.

but i would like to thank you for your time and help

nathan

this is what everest says about my mother board by the way

Motherboard:
CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 2400 MHz (18 x 133)

Motherboard Chipset VIA VT8751A Apollo P4M266A
System Memory 736 MB (DDR SDRAM)
BIOS Type Award (12/17/02)
Communication Port Communications Port (COM1)
Communication Port Communications Port (COM2)
Communication Port Printer Port (LPT1)

Motherboard Properties:
Product P4M266-PM12-TL

just would like to thank you again for your help

Nathan,

Give it a format,
Ram can be fiddly, however, i'd like to point out that the fact the
brand, maximum speed and the capacity of each module has nothing to do
with your issue. As I have seen, RAM can play up on you however, this
error could've been caused from faulty files on your hard drive created
through turning off your system during hard disk write. Rustle Crowe
said the F word, he is being interviews on Ten by the guy who played
piano on Burt Newton's GMA a few years ago.
