Since the 12 May, the following warning has started to appear regularly in
my Application event log on Windows XP Pro SP1:
Source: Windows Product Activation
Event ID: 1005
Description:
Your Windows product has not been activated with Microsoft yet. Please use
the Product
Activation Wizard within 30 days. For more information, see Help and
Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
If I follow the link to the Help and Support Center, the explanation talks
about Windows Server 2003 (but I'm running Windows XP Pro!). The suggested
user action is to run the Product Activation Wizard
(C:\Windows\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a) but, when I do that, it tells me
that "Windows is already activated. Click OK to exit" (which is correct - I
activated Windows a long time ago now!).
Does anyone have any idea what is happening? Is it anything to do with
Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB905474) that Windows Update
installed on the 12 May as part of some high priority updates?
