Windows problem; ie Event ID 1517

Guest

My computer will not allow my user profile to access "My Documents" and other
files. I noticed that in the event viewer I am seeing id 1517.
I downloaded the registry fix, but it has not worked.

What can I try next?

Hi Ron,

What happens when you try to access them? Does it lock up or do you get an
error message? If the latter, what is it?

If you experience slow logoff (with Saving your settings for most of the
time while logging off), you are having profile unload problems.

If you see a lot of Userenv/1517, Userenv/1524 or Userenv/1500 errors in the
Event Viewer, download and install the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service.

This decreased my shutdown time a bunch. Takes any where from 10 to 20
seconds to shutdown.

C:\Program Files\UPHClean\uphclean.exe is added.

The User Profile Hive Cleanup service gets added to Services and
uphclean.exe will run all the time. I am one that doesn't like to have any
extra services running, but I am sold on UPHClean.

I tried the Hive cleanup and it did not fix my problem. I still cannot view
"My Docs" or access them. I still get the event id 1517 after each shutdown.

OK. using the Hive cleanup gets rid of the event 1517, but I am still not
able to gett back my profile under the documents and settings. This means I
cannot view any of my files or windows settings..
I think this is all related to the event issue.
I have performed spyware checks and virus and have seen nothing. System
appears ok, but no profile. I can setup another profile and set it up and it
works. But my old one with all my files are not visible.
Help.

Type or paste the following line into Start | Run and click OK...

%userprofile%\My Documents

Does your My Documents open?

Perhaps your My Documents folder got the Hidden attribute set by mistake.

If your My Documents open folder opened, go back up one level, right click
My Documents, click Properties, UNCheck Hidden on the General tab, click
Apply and click OK.

Thanks.
I did that and I am able to view the files, but cannot open the files.
Example: If I open Word, I go to file open and it is not reading any files
under my user folder. In Windows Exployer, they are visible, but in a
lighter color.
