Windows PopUps

J

John Johnson

Running XP Pro.

Two items are in my system tray. One is Java and the Other Windows.
Everytime I turn the computer on, both pop up telling me there are
updates available. \
I once let Java install and it screwed my computer up, had to use
Restore and I won't let it install but I can't figure out how to get
rid of it.

The other is a Windows Update about authenticaty the Windows.
Again I do not want it to pop up, It just started a month ago. And I
can't find out to get rid or disable it.

Java update
Start -> Run -> msconfig <Enter> -> Startup -> untick "jusched"
(you'll have to restart your computer; you'll also get a message
saying startup options have changed. Tick the option never to show
this warning again, and <OK>

Windows Update
right click My Computer icon -> Properties -> Automatic Updates ->
select Turn off auto updates
*BUT REMEMBER* it is now *YOUR* responsibility to regularly check
whether any updates are available (which is the best way of updating,
anyway)
